REQUIEM_ŽAN_TETIČKOVIČ_a5_ (1).jpg

Žan Tetičkovič (Jean John)’s new project "Requiem" composed for a mixed choir and jazz quartet is a sophisticated eleven-piece mass/suite that uniquely combines jazz improvisation, original texts of 11th-century’s Liber Usualis, and the aesthetic principles of modal music from Palestrina. The latter served as a starting point for the inspiration behind the project and revealed new frameworks for improvisation.

Jean’s “Requiem” in its original content, relates to the spiritual power and grandeur of the requiem mass. Both a refreshing musical experiment and beautifully complex concept, the polyphonic passages bring together all the traditional principles of voice leading from beginning (Introit: Requiem Aeternam) to end (In Paradisum).

The intricately composed polyphonic passages depicting the most sophisticated contrapuntal devices are showcased in Requiem through natural beauty of human voices; the oldest and timeless instrument portraying consonance and harmony.
